Aguilar: Violence Against Women

FIELD Marshal Montgomery: Lady Astor, I must tell you that I do not approve of politicians.
Lady Astor: That’s all right. The only general I approve of is Evangeline Booth.
Bessie Braddock: Winston, you’re drunk!
Winston Churchill: Bessie, you’re ugly. But tomorrow I shall be sober.

Lady Astor: If you were my husband, Winston, I’d put poison in your tea.
Winston Churchill: If I were your husband, Nancy, I’d drink it.

Perhaps, the exchanges of witty remarks tickled you pink. Aside from making you laugh however, the sarcastic bits of witticism told on the battle of sexes too. For no matter how petty the quarrels seemed to be, there certainly was no love lost among the arguing personalities in the anecdotes.

The bitter root of such ill-feeling between man and woman started to grow in the Garden of Eden. That was when Adam blamed Eve for urging him to take a bite of the forbidden fruit. Since then, the inherited gender differences kept on flourishing because it’s almost impossible for anyone to bridge over it.

As a consequence, violence against women arose like nobody’s business. Young girls are molested, maidens violated, and wives manhandled for no reason at all. To put it another way, the maltreatment of the fairer sex became a problem that no one can come to grips with until now.

In an attempt to beat the odds, Dr. Leticia Yap, medical director of the Makabali Hospital called for a stop to abuses on women. Somehow, World Class City Mayor Oca Rodriguez helped her with an order creating the City of San Fernando Women’s Month of 2011 Executive Committee and its members.

The Executive Committee included Mayor Oca as honorary chairperson; Dr. Leticia Yap as chairperson, and Aysel Macalino as co-chairperson. Appointed members were Carla Jean Panganiban, Sonia Soto, Rowena Siron Freeman, Jennifer Bonifacio, Rosario Extrabillo, Corazon Baluyut, Editha Layug, Adelaida Verzosa.

In a meeting with the press recently, Dr. Yap said: “March 8 as International Women’s Day is an occasion marked by women’s group around the world.” She also said that the occasion speaks well for ordinary women as makers of history while they struggled for equal footing with men in society.

7. Pantay na oportunidad sa larangan military at pagpasok sa pulisya at hukbong sandatahan.
9. Kumprehensibong impormasyon at edukasyong pangkalusugang reproduktibo.
10. Dalawang buwang maternity leave at reproductive related surgery leave na may kompensasyon.
