EdPam welcomes DFA in Angeles

ANGELES CITY – Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan lauded the efforts made by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for opening a consular office at a shopping mall here.

Pamintuan was among those invited during Monday’s inauguration of the new DFA consular office at the 3rd level of Marquee Mall in this city.

Also invited were Governor Lilia Pineda of Pampanga, Archbishop Paciano V. Aniceto, Chairman Francisco Duque of the Civil Service Commission, DFA Undersecretaries Laura Del Rosario and Jose Brillantes and DFA Assistant Secretary Jaime Victor Ledda.

“The DFA passport office here will provide several, not to mention timely, advantages for the community. It will prove to be an essential, convenient and necessary addition to the city’s already sterling array of services,” the mayor said.

“If we consider Angeles’ proximity to Clark, it will dictate the immediate need for travel services, particularly the need to avail or maybe even renew passports.

The abundance of legitimate travel agencies here in the city will also benefit the DFA in supplying and monitoring the said agencies with their services and programs,” Pamintuan added.

For his part, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario said the new consular facility at MarQuee Mall is the result of an out-of-the-box formula that the DFA pursued last year to make the department’s services more accessible to the public.

“This was the result of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements the DFA entered into with Pacific Mall Corporation, Robinsons Land Corporation, Ayala Land Incorporated and SM Prime Holdings,” Del Rosario said as the DFA expects to open at least 11 more consular offices in shopping malls across the country before the end of the year.

“By 2014, we should have 30 such facilities operating in shopping malls across the country,” he added.

At the same time, Pamintuan expressed his gratitude to the management of MarQuee Mall for always being welcome to several innovations that benefit their corporate social responsibility.

“I recently had my second State of the City Address (SOCA) here at their activity center and part of the success of that event goes to the mall. Thank you for always extending your cooperation with the city government.

I assure you that our firm partnership will further strengthen our organization’s respective endeavors,” Pamintuan said.

He also acknowledged the efforts of Kapampangan diplomat Elmer Cato for initiating the implementation of DFA’s Public-Private Partnership program that established consular offices in shopping malls in Metro Manila and regional centers geared towards the improvement of the delivery of passport and other consular services to the public.

Cato was conferred the Gawad Mabini with the Rank of Dakilang Kasugo by no less than President Aquino at the ceremonies commemorating the 114th founding anniversary of the DFA and the 148th birth anniversary of Gat Apolinario Mabini on July 26.
