IBM continues expansion program in Central Luzon

CLARK FREEPORT — The IBM Philippines Inc. has launched its geographic expansion in Pampanga to cover growth areas in Central Luzon, including Clark and Subic.

In line with this, IBM organized on Thursday a smarter solution workshop for local clients and business partners to spur transformation and growth in Central Luzon region.

The one-day session, which was anchored on IBM Smarter Computing approach and focused on the manufacturing industry, was held at the Holiday Inn here.

Owen Cammayo, IBM Philippines External Relations Leader, said the manufacturing industry in general has been through decades of changes.

Innovation and technology have helped manufacturers build smarter products in less time and at less cost, he said.

However, many manufacturers failed to live up to embrace the available technology and had since lag behind and left behind into oblivion, according to Cammayo.

As part of its geographic expansion initiatives, IBM is actively expanding its business operations in the Philippines and other Asean countries where strategies like Smarter Computing is needed to help local businesses become more competitive in the market place across the regions, he added.

Randy Sng, manufacturing industry manager of IBM Asean, said they are committed to share new technologies and innovations to all kinds of businesses including manufacturing, health care, agriculture among others.

“IBM is here to make manufacturing smarter. And to become smarter requires two critical changes. Firstly, the ability to produce new information such as through RFID instrumentation and connecting systems and secondly; the ability to visualize, sense and act on that information,” said Sng.

These solutions are part of an overall IBM strategy called Smarter Computing which refers to smarter architecture that can help clients gain actionable insights from data, increase IT capacity and deliver new services faster to create profitable business opportunities.

IBM introduced its Smarter Computing approach to information technology last year as a way for organizations to realize greater efficiencies, improved reliability, and better performance, all at lower costs.

The Smarter Computing strategy centers around three fundamental aspects: leveraging analytics to exploit vast amounts of data for business goals; utilizing optimized systems that are designed for specific tasks; and managing as much of the IT as possible with cloud-computing technologies.

Since its establishment in the Philippines in 1937, IBM has evolved to become the leading information technology partner in the country providing hardware, software, and IT-enabled business services to domestic and global markets.

IBM in the Philippines has grown exponentially in terms of business portfolio, talent growth and geographic reach.

San Pedro: P’noy Approves Mabalacat CityhoodPRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III has finally approved House Bill 2509/4735 or the Mabalacat Cityhood Bill, setting into motion the plebiscite that will pave way for the conversion of Mabalacat town into a component city.

It was a one small step but a big leap for Mabalacat that will surely usher it into the realm of economic globalization with the presence of key economic generators like the Clark International Airport, Clark Freeport Zone, and the modern Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway that links it to the deep-sea port of Subic. Mabalacat City is destined for greatness and no one can stop it. Not even an unsupportive Vice Mayor.

Post your condolences to Dolphy’s family

Once Mabalacat becomes a city, there will be a 5-year tax moratorium while public services will further improve. No other cities or towns in Pampanga will be at par with Mabalacat City once all the key economic generators work seamlessly, elevating the status of the once bucolic town in the world arena. Mabalacat is the new gateway of the country and that is a fact because everything else around Mabalacat will become accessories.

Several years ago, Mabalacat Mayor Marino Morales, journalist Deng Pangilinan and yours truly had been dreaming of a “Mabalacat City” and it looks like it will happen now.

The Mabalaqueños support it particularly the Mabalacat Association of Barangay Captains (ABC). ABC President Jeng Yumul said all barangay captains in Mabalacat’s 21 barangays will support the cityhood of Mabalacat and thus will actively campaign for its approval during the scheduled plebiscite. “We will give our all-out support to the conversion of Mabalacat town into a city because we know that this will bring in more changes,” said Camachile Barangay Captain Jess Duran.

Yumul and Duran noted that the delivery of public services will further improve because the IRA allotment of Mabalacat will increase.

The Mabalacat cityhood bill was supported by Senators Lito Lapid, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Tito Sotto, Franklin Drilon, Jinggoy Estrada and Rep. Carmelo Lazatin who sponsored the Mabalacat cityhood bill. Lazatin is the touted “Father of Mabalacat Cityhood.”

What’s next in store? Watch out for the development of major infrastructure such as the Mabalacat Public Market, triple A slaughterhouse, lighting of major roadways, construction of additional classrooms in Mabalacat Community College and the proposed 168 retail building in Barangay Mabiga. All these and more are at stake with Boking at the helm. http://www.sunstar.com.ph/pampanga/business/2012/05/20/san-pedro-p-noy-approves-mabalacat-cityhood-222412
