Pagkumpuni sa Angat Dam matatapos sa 2016

MALOLOS CITY—Tiniyak ng Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) na matatapos ang pagkukumpuni sa Angat Dam sa 2016.

Ito ay matapos simulan ng MWSS ang proseso ng pagsusubasta o pagpili sa magkukumpuni sa dam na inaaasahang ihahayag sa Hulyo.

Sa kanyang pahayag sa mga lumahok sa isinagawang Environment Summit sa Hiyas ng Bulacan Pavillion nitong Huwebes, sinabi ni Gerardo Esquivel, administrador ng MWSS, na ang pagkumupuni ay isang hakbang sa pagtiyak ng katatagan ng dam.

Ang nasabing summit ay pinangunahan ng Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (Benro) sa pakikipagtulungan ng sangay sa Bulacan ng Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).

Ayon kay Esquivel, ang mapipiling kumpanya na magsasagawa ng pagkukumpuni sa dam ay ihahayag sa susunod na buwan.

Tiniyak din niya na ang pagkukumpuni ay matatapos sa Seytembre 2016.

Ang pagkukumpuni sa dam ay kaugnay ng mga pag-aaral na nagsasabing ang dike ng dam ay 200 metro lamang ang layo sa West Marikina Valley Fault line (WMVF).

Isa sa dalawang dike ng dam ay nakaupo naman sa isang splay o sanga ng WMVF.

Batay sa rekomendasyon ng Tonkin and Taylor International at Engineering Corporation of the Philippines (Edcop), na nagsagawa ng pag-aaral sa katatagan ng dam, ang pagkukumpuni ay magkakahalaga ng P5.7 bilyon.

Kabilang dito ay ang pagpapakapal sa dike ng dam upang mas tumatag at pagtatayo ng panibagong spillway.

Bukod dito, bubuo din ng Emergency Action Plan (EAP) bilang paghahanda sa posibilidag ng kalamidad..

Ayon kay Esquivel, ang pagpapakumpuni sa dam na sinimulang gamitin noong 1968 ay suportado ni Pangulong Benigno Aquino III.

Mula noong 1968 hanggang sa kasalukuyan, ang dam ang pinagkukunan ng 97 porsyento ng tubig inumin ng Kalakhang Maynila.

Bukod dito, ang dam ang pinagkukunan ng patubig ng may 26,000 ektaryang bukirin sa Bulacan at Pampanga.

Lumilikha naman ng 246 megawatt ng kuryente ang Angat River Hydro Electric Power Plant (Arhepp).

Matatandaan na noong 2009 ay unang kumalat ang balita hinggil sa pagiging malapit ng dike ng dam sa WMVF.

Ito ay matapos ihayag ni Dr. Renato Solidum ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) ang impormasyong ito sa bumubuo ng Sangguniang Panglalawigan ng Bulacan na pinamumunuan ng noo’y si Bise Gob. Wilhelmino Alvarado.

Matapos mahalal si Alvarado bilang punong lalawigan, agad niyang ipinabatid kay Pangulong Aquino ang kalagayan ng dam.

Dahil dito, agad na umaksyon si Aquino at inatasan ang MWSS para sa pagsasagawa ng pag-aaral sa katatagan ng dam.

Kaugnay nito, sinabi ni Alvarado sa mga dumalo sa environment summit na nakahanda ang lalawigan sa epekto ng climate change.

Ayon kay Alvarado, ang lalawigan sa pangunguna ng Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council ay kasalukuyang nagsasagawa ng kampanya sa paghahatid ng impormasyon hinggil sa paghahanda sa kalamidad.

“Our Bulacan rescue teams and other volunteers are always on call. We provided them with radio equipment.

We are also constantly coordinating with several newspapers via press releases for regular updates,” ani Alvarado.

Idinagdag pa niya na “nagpo-procure na tayo ng maliliit na bangka na magagamit sa rescue operations. Meron din po tayong darating na additional 10 ambulances from PCSO.”

Ayon kay Alvarado, ang summit ay isinagawa para sa kapakanan ng mga kabataang Bulakenyo.

Ito ay dahil sa ang mga kabataan ang magmamana ng kalikasang iiwan ng kasalukuyang salinlahi, aniya.
