Village execs lauded for discovery of carjackers’ lair

MABALACAT — A top police official here commended the leaders of Barangay Mabiga who became instrumental in the discovery of a suspected carjackers’ lair recently.
Superintendent Rolly Mendoza, town police chief, said information relayed by barangay officials led to the raid of the hideout and confiscation of at least three luxury vehicles and car parts.
Mendoza cited the active involvement of barangay leaders in the municipality in terms of information gathering as part of the local police crime-prevention program.
He urged leaders in other barangays to report any information on suspicious characters residing in their respective villages.
According to Mendoza, barangay officials are advised to conduct a survey on transient residents to prevent criminal elements from entering and residing in the municipality.
Governor Lilia Pineda urged car dealers to secure permits from the mayors in a bid to regulate the industry and prevent the operation of carnapping syndicates in the province.
Pineda reportedly directed the mayors to utilize their respective intelligence funds to establish the whereabouts of suspected carjackers.
The Pampanga governor was apparently irked by reports tagging the province as the carnapping capital of Central Luzon. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
