Village hosts ‘longest street breakfast’ in Magalang

MAGALANG — The youth council of Barangay San Jose hosted the first-ever longest almusal (breakfast) activity over the weekend in a bid to foster camaraderie and understanding among local residents this yuletide season.
Youth chairman Christian Umber Ramos said the one-kilometer long breakfast buffet is part of their first ever Almusal King Dalan Festival. In this activity, ordinary residents would line-up rows and rows of tables with food arranged on banana leaves.

“The SK (youth council) would provide the initial contribution for the food while the rest of the participating residents would be bringing in a viand or two. We pool in food stuffs and the result is a breakfast banquet with a wide array of food,” Ramos said.
Ramos said the residents, though not part of the organizing group can come and eat at the buffet tables in the company of neighbors, both rich and poor.
“The aim of the event is to make a social equalizer for the community. With this event, we want people to appreciate the simple pleasures of life like enjoying simple food while being with the company of one’s family and community,” Ramos added.
The event started at 6:00 a.m. and lasted until 9:00 a.m. with local officials like Vice Gov. Joseller Guiao, Village captain Rico Lacson, former Mayor Pastor Guiao and dozens of residents of San Jose, Magalang in attendance.
