Angat Dam: matibay at walang ‘crack’

NORZAGARAY, Bulacan—Walang crack ang Angat Dam, matibay ito at tatagal pa ng 60 taon.

Ito ang magkaugnay na paglilinaw ng National Power Corporation (Napocor) at Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) hinggil sa kalagayan ng Angat Dam kaugnay ng mga lumabas na balitang may ‘crack’ o bitak ito.

“Imposible yan, hindi concrete ang dike ng Angat Dam,” ani Inhinyero Rodolfo German, ang general manager ng Angat River Hydro Electric Power Plant (Arhepp) ng Napocor na siyang namamahala sa dam.

Muling nilinaw ni German na ang mga dike ng Angat Dam ay rock- and earth-filled o yari sa mga pinagpatong-patong na malalaking tipak ng bato at lupa.

Sa kanilang pag-aaral, sinabi ni German na sakali mang lumindol at magkaroon ng bitak ang dike, iyon ay kusang nagsasara dahil sa gawa iyon sa lupa at mga tipak ng bato.

“Hindi ito katulad ng kongkreto na kapag nag-crack, tuloy-tuloy na, yung rock- and earth-filled, kusang naghi-heal,” ani German.

Inayunan din ito ni Dr. Renato Solidum, ang direktor ng Phivolcs nang siya ay makapanayam sa GMA Network noong Hunyo 13.

Pinagkumpara din ni Solidum ang rock- and earth-filled dam sa kongkretong dam.

Sinabi niya na mas matibay ang una dahil ang concrete dam ay madaling mag-crack o magkabitak.

Nilinaw din ni Solidum na maaaring nalilito ang ilang mamahayag hinggil sa pagbabalita tungkol sa Marikina West Valley Fault Line (MWVF).

“Magkaiba yung crack at yung fault line,” ani Solidum at ipinaliwanag na ang fault line ay malaking bitak sa ilalim ng lupa.

Iginiit pa niya na wala silang binabanggit na “crack sa dam” sa halip ay palaging nababanggit ng Phivolcs sa mga panayam ang faultline ng MWVF na may 200 metro lamang ang layo sa dike ng dam.

Ayon kay Solidum, bilang tugon sa pagkakadiskubre sa MWVF di kalayuan sa dike ng dam, nagkomisyon ang Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) ng isang pag-aaral para sa katatagan ng dam.

Muli niyang iginiit na “there is no crack on the dam structure, the rehabilitation plan is part of precautionary measure.”

Hinggil naman sa siltation o pagkapal ng burak sa ilalim ng dam, sinabi ni German na umaabot pa lamang iyon sa 20 metro mula sa bedrock ng dam.

“Tatagal pa ng another 60 years ang Angat Dam, kasi batay sa estimates, kalahating metro ang nadagdag na siltation sa dam every year,” ani German.

Ipinalinawag niya na ang power tunnel ng dam ay may taas na 50 metro mula sa bedrock ng dam, kaya’t aabutin pa ng 60 taon bago matabunan ng burak ang bunganga ng power tunnel.

Sinabi pa ni German na maaaring tumagal pa ang serbisyo ng dam kung magsasagawa ng desilting operation upang maalis at maiahon ang natitining na burak sa bedrock ng dam.
