MMDA lifts number coding for November 7

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) temporarily lifted the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or the “number-coding” Monday, November 7, which Malacañang had declared as holiday.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the suspension of the number coding scheme is in line with Malacañang’s declaration of November 7 as a holiday to mark the Eid-ul-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) among the Muslim community.
“Number coding is lifted on Monday,” Tolentino said, adding the suspension also covers the cities of Makati and Las Pinas, which do not usually follow the lifting of the vehicle reduction scheme.
Under the number coding scheme, private vehicles based on last digit of their plate numbers are prohibited to traverse the metropolis for a certain day of the week, specifically on Mondays, vehicles with plate numbers ending 1 and 2 are not allowed, Tuesdays-3 and 4, Wednesdays-5 and 6, Thursdays- 7 and 8 and Fridays-9 and 10.
Under Republic Act 9849 Eid-ul-Adha, which is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam, should be celebrated as a regular holiday and as such is a non-wording day as decreed by Proclamation 276, which President Benigno Aquino III signed last month. (AH/Sunnex)
