Motorcycle riders arrested for carrying firearm

PORAC — Two riders-in-tandem were arrested by elements of the Porac Municipal Police Station after being found to be carrying a firearm.
According to reports, elements of the Porac police conducted an anti-criminality checkpoint along the National Road in Barangay Manibaug Paralaya when the suspects — identified as Christopher Santos, 25, and Vicky Padilla, 30, both of San Roque Dau in Lubao town — on board a black SYM motorcycle, were flagged down for not wearing helmets.
The suspects, according to the report, ignored the checkpoint and sped away from the inspecting team.
Police operatives SPO1 Manolo Castillo and PO2 Pedro Gumiday chased the suspects, who failed to show any pertinent documents of the said motorcycle.
They were also requested to open the compartment of the said vehicle where police recovered a pistol tucked in its holster.
Upon verification, it was learned that the gun is a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol bearing serial number18021, loaded with five live ammunitions and one empty cartridge. The suspects also failed to produce any pertinent papers of the firearm.
The driver and the back rider of the said motorcycle were arrested and were taken to Lubao Police Station for proper disposition.
They were charged with illegal possession of firearm before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutor Marlyds Estardo-Teodoro found probable cause to indict Santos for the charge during the inquest proceedings while Padilla was released from police custody after finding no proof that she is not in control of the illegal firearm.
Santos is presently detained at Porac Police Office pending the commitment order.
