By Anthony Vargas Jun. 03, 2010 at 7:32pm

MANILA, Philippines – Three people were found dead from gunshot wounds inside a luxury van in Angeles City, Pampanga province on Thursday morning.

Police reports reaching Camp Crame identified the bodies as Florencio Yap alias Jack, a rich Filipino-Chinese trader; Dennis Guinto, Yap’s personal bodyguard; and Rene Tetangco, brother of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) governor Armando Tetangco, and uncle of incumbent Apalit town mayor Jun Tetangco.

Police reports said the van, a green Ford Expedition (YAP-2250), was parked in a vacant lot near a Korean Church on Brgy. Pampang, Angeles City.

Joseph Mederaso, a security guard from the Bavarian Lions restaurant discovered the van and the bodies at around 8 a.m., reports said.

Mederaso, the police said, reported to the authorities the presence of the van and the three dead bodies –– all bearing multiple gunshot wounds.

Yap and Tetangco’s bodies were found at the passenger (middle) seat of the van, while Guinto’s body was situated at the back of the van when found.

An initial police probe indicated that the van was registered to a Teresita Yap of Gemsville Subd., Brgy. Dolores, also in Angeles City.

Reports also said Yap’s family owns the Yap Bun King Hardware in Angeles City.

Chief Inspector Randy Glen Silvio, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Angeles City, said the three were last seen alive in the early down of Tuesday while leaving the premises of the Kings Poker Sports Club, where they reportedly played poker.

Investigators were able to obtain copies of video footage of the gambling place where Yap and Tetangco were seen playing poker.

The video footage showed Yap and Tetangco playing with Mr. Shin, the Korean owner of the gambling club; Bong Ferraris, village chair of Brgy. Cutud; and two other Koreans.

Motive and identities of the suspects responsible for the three deaths are still undetermined.

Police said they have already formed a task force to investigate the case.

Robbery seen behind slaying of Tetangco’s brother
Friday, June 4, 2010

ANGELES CITY – Policemen, in its initial findings, found robbery could be the real motive in the killing of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Armando Tetangco’s brother and two others.

Three persons found dead inside a SUV Ford Expedition parked in a vacant lot near the Korean Christian chapel along Friendship Avenue in Barangay Pampang, Angeles City on Thursday.

The victims were identified as Rene Tetangco, 42, of Apalit town; Florencio Yap, 44, of the City of San Fernando; and Dennis Guinto, also of the City of San Fernando. Yap is the son of the owner of Yap Bun King Hardware at the said city.

All of the victims sustained gunshot wounds on the head and chest when found by members of the Scene of the Crime Operations (Soco) based in Camp Olivas, City of San Fernando.

Tetangco’s body was found at the vehicle’s front passenger seat while, Yap at the rear seat and Guinto at the back of the SUV compartment.

Police said Tetangco and Yap are big time “sabungeros”. They reportedly left on Tuesday in Mexico cockfight and proceeded to King’s Poker Club.

Tetangco and Yap could have won big money on poker and it could be the reason behind the killing.

On Friday, Central Luzon Police Director Arturo Cacdac Jr. formed Task Force “Yap, Tetangco” to conduct a follow up investigation on the case.

Cacdac said the task force will be headed by Senior Superintendent Wendy del Rosario, deputy regional director for operations.

The task force will be composed of Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), Angeles City Police, PNP Crime Laboratory Office and Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU).

Cacdac said he directed the task force to solve within 24 hours the killing of Tetangco, Yap, and Guinto.

“The killer or killers of the victims should be put behind bar as soon as possible,” Cacdac said.

Angeles City Police Director Danilo Bautista said that Joseph Maderso, a security guard of Bavarian Lions restaurant found the body and immediately informed Police Station 5 about the incident.

Bautista said Yap entered at the King’s Poker Sports Club in Angeles City at about 9 p.m. Tuesday and left at about 4:45 a.m. together with Tetangco.

He said the killers, after shooting the victims, dragged Guinto’s body into the back compartment and drove the SUV to the vacant lot where it was abandoned.

A conference on the said case has been conducted by the task force commander at the Angeles City Police Office. (Ric Sapnu and Ian Flora Ocampo)

In related development, Senior Superintendent Wendy Rosario, chairman of the Tetangco-Yap task force created to solve the murders of Rene Tetangco Jr., brother of BSP Governor Amando Tetangco, and his companions businessman Florencio Yap and aide Dennis Quinto, said the Monday that the victims might have known their killers the night of June 2 when they were brutally murdered.

“It was probable the culprits were known to some or all three victims, since I don’t think they could have stopped the van they were riding if those who had flagged them down were strangers,” Rosario said.

Rosario disclosed that a witness said the abandoned Fortuner sports utility vehicle containing the bodies of the three victims was observed at a vacant lot along Fields Avenue in Angles City about 9 p.m. or only one and a half hours later. What happened between 7 p.m. and that time remains unclear, he said.

Rosario also revealed that the task force is set to invite outgoing Bacolor Mayor Buddy Dungca, former provincial board member John Santos and provincial board member re-elect Cris Garbo, whom Tetangco and Yap were supposed to play poker with at King’s Poker Club, for added information on the case.

Tetangco and Yap, however, never made it to the club.

Dungca, who claimed Yap had been a long-time friend, opined that the suspects were known to the victims. He said he went home after Yap and Tetangco did not show up at the club. (Ric Sapnu and Jovi T. De Leon)

P1-M bounty up for triple murders
Wednesday, June 16, 2010

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO– A kin of slain businessman Florencio “Jack” Yap disclosed Tuesday that a P1 million reward is offered for solid information that will lead to the immediate solution of the triple murder of Yap, Rene Tetangco, Jr. and Dennis Quinto on June 2.

The family member, who preferred not to be named, told Sun.Star Pampanga in an exclusive interview that they have decided to raise the reward from P200,000 to P1 million to speed up the resolution of the case.

Recently, Task Force Yap-Tetangco-Quinto (TF YTQ), headed by Senior Superintendent Wendy Rosario revealed that the killers of the three might have been known to the victims.

But investigators, Rosario added, were facing a “blank wall” as to what transpired between 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. that fateful day. The bodies of the victims were found in an abandoned vehicle along Friendship Avenue in Angeles City by a security guard.

The Yap family member said they hope the bounty will help bring the perpetrators to justice, while appealing anew to police to intensify its investigation and manhunt for the suspects.

The family member also revealed to Sun.Star Pampanga that they have requested the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to assist in solving the triple murders.

Investigators have yet to establish the motive in the YTQ case, although Angeles City Police earlier bared that robbery is an angle intelligence operatives are looking into.

Yap, Tetangco, and Quinto were found dead inside a Ford Expedition with license plates YAP 225 parked in a vacant lot near the Korean Christian Chapel along Friendship Avenue in Barangay Pampang the night the brutal killings were committed.

Yap is a scion of the Yap Bun King Hardware clan in the City of San Fernando, while Tetangco is the brother of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Armando Tetangco.

All of the victims sustained gunshot wounds on the head and chest when found by members of the Scene of the Crime Operations based in Camp Olivas, this city. Operatives said the victims could have been tortured first before being shot.

Tetangco’s body was found at the vehicle’s front passenger seat while Yap’s at the rear seat and Quinto at the vehicle’s back compartment.

Police said Tetangco and Yap reportedly left on Tuesday, June 1 from a Mexico cockfight and proceeded to King’s Poker Club in Angeles City. Investigators said Yap entered the club at about 9 p.m. and left at about 4:45 a.m. together with Tetangco.

Chief Superintendent Arturo Cacdac Jr., Central Luzon police director, has since directed the task force to immediately solve the killings.

“The killer or killers of the victims should be put behind bars as soon as possible,” Cacdac said. (Jovi T. De Leon)
