Capas-Botolan Road seen to boost Pampanga, Zambales tourism

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. vice chairman and Regional Development Council (RDC)-Central Luzon member Rene Romero said Monday the construction of the Capas-Botolan Road will boost tourism in Pampanga and Zambales provinces.
The construction of the road was recently approved by the RDC’s Sectoral Committee on Infrastructure Development (SCID).

Romero said that with the ongoing SCID moves to link road networks via the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway and the planned Tarlac-Casiguran Expressway, the “backdoor” Capas-Botolan Road, which will traverse through Angeles City and other Pampanga towns like Floridablanca, Porac and Sta. Rita, there would be a new access to tourism sites in the two provinces, as well as a new corridor for development.
The Kapampangan chamber had also recently proposed the construction of the Subic-Tarlac-Casiguran Expressway, which is more than 160 kilometers of transport time-cutting stretch that will link the eastern and western seaboards.
“Our additional proposal for the Capas-Botolan road is for it to cut through Angeles City via Sacobia, forming some sort of a “Y” junction. From there, tourists coming from the Clark International Airport could have access to destinations in Pampanga like Sacobia, Miyamit Falls, Nabuclod and even Arayat. A lot of towns and the cities of Angeles and San Fernando, plus Mabalacat, have so much to offer in terms of eco, cultural tourism and entertainment,” Romero said.
Further west, he added, would be the unspoiled natural sites of Mt. Apulao and the shorelines of Zambales including the marine sanctuary in Candelaria.
“With the growing awareness and advocacy to promote local tourist destinations that the two provinces have to offer, we would not only boost tourism but open windows for development, create jobs and attract investments since the road networks pass through idle. And by not traversing through narrow municipal and barangay roads, risks and danger to tourists and motorists are reduced,” Romero said.
