Capitol targets P760-M from quarry in 3 years

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–The provincial government has increased its target collection from quarry to P760 million in 36 months shortly after it collected P606,487,500 from quarry taxes in only two years and four months.
Environment and Natural Resources Office head Arthur Punsalan said the Capitol,under the leadership of Gov. Lilia Pineda, is well on its way to reaching the all-time high of P760 million with still eight months to go before three year term of the governor ends.
Punsalan said the province was able to realize the collection in cooperation with Task Force:Kalam or the Kapampangan a Lulugud at Matapat.
Punsalan said their original target of P700 million in 36 months has been superseded by the significant increase in the collection.
Thru its efforts, the provincial government reached the highest monthly collectionsof P28,420,000 in March this year; P28,962,000 in May; and ,P26,915,000 in October.
Now surpassing the P600-million mark, Punsalan said, they are optimistic in collecting about P160 million more within the next eight months considering the average monthly quarry take is at P21,660,267.
Punsalan said one of Pineda’s thrusts in governing the province is to increase the quarry collection.
Last June 11, the provincial government implemented the use of weighing scales and with that, the Capitol was able to collect some P9,730,500in weighing fees.
The amount collected from the weighing fees already recovered the province’s investment in the purchase of the weighing scales.
It could be recalled that Pineda directed the full implementation of anti-overloading law, ordering the ENRO to put up weighing scales in different areas.
Punsalan said the weighing scales have ensured the protection of vital roads in the province.
In 2011, a year after Pineda assumed her post as governor, the provincial government has collected P355.5 million from quarry fees.
