Clark firm donates relief goods to typhoon victims

CLARK FREEPORT — Officials and employees of the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) distributed relief goods to victims of Typhoon Quiel in at least five towns in the low-lying areas of Pampanga’s second and fourth districts.
CDC President Felipe Antonio Remollo, who was accompanied by Mayor Leonora Wong during the relief operations, said that at the height of Typhoon Quiel on October 2, the CDC distributed some 100 packs of relief goods to flood victims trapped in low-lying areas of San Simon town.
He said the relief operations are not only the CDC’s response “to the dire conditions wrought by Typhoon Quiel but also the state-owned corporation’s new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program that is geared to help address the various concerns that affect local communities.
He added that the CDC has launched the Clark Community Assistance, Relief and Emergency Services or “Clark Cares” last week, amid preparations for upcoming typhoons expected to hit the country.
On Tuesday, October 4, the CDC also distributed 3,000 relief goods to typhoon victims in the towns of Sasmuan, Guagua, Candaba, and San Luis. The relief operation was supervised by Remollo, along with other executives and 20 CDC volunteer employees from the Association of Concerned CDC Employees, Association of CDC Supervisory Personnel, and Association of CDC Executives.
“Clark Cares was launched last week amid preparations for Typhoon Quiel. It was first broached when CDC committed P10 million to a project that will address the 440 classroom backlog in the 1st District of Pampanga,” Remollo said.
He said the project would also tap various foreign and local investors inside the Freeport here to help in the community project.
“This is a project inspired by President Aquino where there is a need to come out and reach out to the needy sectors, especially those that are being displaced by recent typhoons,” Remollo stressed.
He said the Clark Cares program has also scheduled relief drives in the affected towns of Bulacan and Tarlac.
Earlier, the Clark Cares program was broached after the CDC first committed P10 million worth of funds to the “Kabahagi Ako: Adopt a Classroom” project of Representative Carmelo Lazatin (1st district, Pampanga).
Remollo said the funds committed by the CDC could help cut the classroom shortage in the province’s first district by at least 14 classrooms.
Lazatin also lauded the CDC management for its support for the lawmaker’s recently launched education summit and adopt a classroom program, which was established to address the classroom shortage in the towns of Magalang, Mabalacat, and Angeles City.
