Facebook helps Pampanga cops capture robbery, serial-murder suspect

Once again, Facebook has proven that it’s not the time waster that others make it out to be. You see, it has apparently even helped the Pampanga police capture a robbery and serial-murder suspect.

Mark Dizon, a 28-year-old computer technician, was recently nabbed by the police in San Fernando, Pampanga. He is the primary suspect in a series of robberies and murders, which have so far claimed the lives of 9 people, including 3 foreigners.

How does Facebook get into the picture? Apparently, Dizon was Facebook friends with the daughter of his alleged victims – Albert Mitchell, a 70-year-old US Air Force veteran; his Filipina wife, Janet; and their 3 Filipino staff.

Witnesses described the gunman, prompting a family friend of the Mitchells to check the suspect’s profile via his connection to the victims’ daughter. Dizon’s profile picture was then shown to the witnesses, who recognized him, and the rest, as they say, is history.

This somewhat reminds us of another story where the Web also played an important role in catching the bad guy. Ah, the Internet. It’s large, and it has other, more noble uses, too.
