ANGELES CITY –- After its successful pilot test in Northville 15, the City Nutrition Office (CNO) here officially launched Tuesday the “Pahalo-halo ni EdPam” at EPZA Resettlement, Pulung Cacutud and in Barangay Sapalibutad.
Arnel Calaguas, city nutrition officer, said a total of 702 children are now part of the feeding program where they would be given proper nourishment in order to improve their health conditions.
“Of the 702 children, 356 under the age of 6 come from EPZA while 346 are from Barangay Sapalibutad. They have been registered and are now expected to be provided with nutritional sustenance for 20 days,” Calaguas said.
“Pahalo-halo ni EdPam” is a feeding program aimed at normalizing the weight of the identified undernourished and severely undernourished children in Pulung Cacutud and Sapalibutad, as well as the day care students of the said barangays.
Hot, rice-based meals will be provided from Monday to Friday and additional milk supplements will be given to the identified undernourished children that they can take for the whole week.
“Unlike the usual feeding programs, the program also targets the maintenance of the children’s nourishment by educating their mothers or guardians on how to provide healthy foods without much expense,” Calaguas said.
Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) who have been trained and certified by the Gender and Development (GAD) office will extend educational services to the parents through the “Pabasa sa Nutrisyon” and other services like home food security, micronutrient supplementation and food fortification and livelihood trainings.
The City Health Office (CHO), City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), City Agriculture Office (CAO) and Public Employment Services Office (Peso) are also part of the ongoing feeding program.
The feeding program also acquires support through the City Government’s partnership with different corporations who sponsor the supply of meals.
