Lubao dance group bags P3.5-M in talent search

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – A dance group of 20 members, some of whom could not continue education due to poverty, won P3.5 million in cash and prices on Saturday night after emerging grand champion in the Central Luzon talent search hosted by a Pampanga-based television network.

 

The Snap Boyz of San Roque, Lubao, Pampanga bested three other singers in the finals of the Star Mill: Central Luzon’s Search for the Star in a Million.

The talent search, participated in by more than 800 people, was conducted by Central Luzon TV 36, a media outfit under the Laus Group of Companies, at the Robinsons Starmills here.

“[We are] very happy. We thank you. It’s a very nice feeling,” said Jomark Calapaio, leader of Snap Boyz, shortly after celebration erupted at the event area of the Gokongwei-owned mall.

Included in their prices are P100,000 cash, brand-new Hiama 2 and P1.3 million worth of house-and-lot from Amber Homes.

Calapaio thanked Vice Gov. Dennis Pineda and Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab for supporting their group.
Eliza Marie Arnaiz of Plaridel, Bulacan was named first runner-up. The other winners were: Daniel Ombao of Mariveles, Bataan, second runner-up; and, Andy Pangan of Apalit, Pampanga, third runner-up.

Some of the Snap Boyz members are tricycle drivers and errand boys at public markets. The others stopped working so that they could concentrate in practice.

“Others could not study because they are poor,” they said.
