Mayor: Illegal quarrying culprit in drowning of boy

MABALACAT – Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales yesterday blamed the alleged illegal quarrying in Villa Quintana here as the culprit in the drowning of an 11-year-old boy last week.
Morales has created Task Force Nicdao to investigate the death of Christian John Nicdao of Purok Magsaysay, Dau, last October 29.
According to Barangay Dau Administrator Willy Feliciano, Nicdao who was playing with his younger brother, accidentally drowned in the rainwater-filled abandoned mining site located near Barangays Balaba and Villa Quintana.
Dau officials said the mining site — about 30 to 50 feet — is located in San Isidro, Villa Quintana, and owned by a certain Paul David of Barangay Balibago, Angeles City.
Morales assured the Nicdao family that “the full force of the law will be applied”.
“The main cause of death is more particularly the alleged illegal quarrying or illegal extraction of activity in Villa Quintana,” he said in a statement.
Relatives of the victim cried for justice, urging Morales to “punish the guilty”.
Morales said Task Force Nicdao is led by Dau Barangay Captain Atlas Morales. He expressed confidence that “their mission and task will be successful”.
Unconfirmed reports show that another person drowned in the mining site before the younger Nicdao. (Ria Isidro-de Fiesta)
