Oca unveils P10-M CCTV system in SF

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — At least 47 of 80 Closed-Circuits Television (CCTV) camera units are now fully operational in key intersections and thoroughfares in the city.

This was announced by Mayor Oscar S. Rodriguez during the ceremonial switch-on of the command post of the CCTVs at the Heroes Hall yesterday.
In an interview, Rodriguez said the P10 million for the CCTV system was sourced from the funds of the local government unit, and that the necessary technology was meant to address concerns on security, safety, criminality and responses to disasters and calamities.

According to city administrator Fer Caylao the whole system is linked to the Bureau of Fire Protection, city police and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office or CDRRMO.

Caylao added that the Command Center will be manned by four watchmen-engineers and safety officers from the CDRRMO who will monitor what transpires in the city streets and vital installations 24 hours a day, and seven days a week.

“The recordings will be preserved until 30 days before they are archived. The CCTV system is our safety net in crime prevention and quick responses to any event that will require assistance from police, firemen and city emergency rescue teams,” Caylao added.

Earlier, officials of the Management Information and Information Technology Division (MITD) said CCTV cameras are now installed in electric posts along the Jose Abad Santos Avenue, Sindalan, and other major intersections in 12 barangays around the city.

“The idea of setting up cameras around the City would be a big help in identifying and investigating important incidents like road accidents and criminal acts,” Dexter Dancel, head of the MITD said.

“CCTV cameras can act as a very effective deterrent to thieves and burglars,” Dancel added.

Preliminary testing and observations reveal that the CCTV project is very promising. In fact, members of the CDRRMC were satisfied with the clear sample video clips captured by the newly-installed CCTV cameras presented during their last meeting.

The CCTV cameras are working fine during the night, but images are not as clear compared to daytime shots. On the other hand, the MITD assured that more cameras will be installed in other parts of the City in the next phase of the project.
